I could not ask for better service every single time I go to PVA and the 35 miles I have to drive to get there is worth every minute for the quality of care I receive from the entire PVA team.

Nancy’s Story: Seeing a Good Vascular Specialist Saved Me

NEWS

Nancy Fisher and her husband Tom enjoy their volunteer work in the hospitals in New Braunfels, Texas, where they have lived for more than 20 years. So when Nancy’s right leg pain became too much for her to endure in 2008, she had to consider the option that she might be forced to stop doing something she truly loved and gave her so much fulfillment.

Her trusted cardiologist finally told her, “Nancy, you really need to see a good vascular specialist before you lose your leg.”

Those words and the thought of an amputation truly frightened her. But they also jolted her into action. Within weeks, Nancy had an appointment at Peripheral Vascular Associates (PVA) in San Antonio and it was not a trip to the big city that she minded making.

“It’s not overstating it to say that Dr. Alfred Laborde saved me.” said Nancy. She still feels emotional about it even now – 11 years later.

Nancy was diagnosed with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) back in 2008 and Dr. Laborde performed an arterial bypass to restore blood flow to her leg. Dr. Peck has performed a few procedures in the years since then and Nancy is currently on an annual check-up plan.  This is part of the life-long relationships vascular surgeons have with their patients to ensure that further complications are avoided.

Don’t Let Distance Get in the Way of Getting the Care You Deserve

“I could not ask for better service every single time I go to PVA and the 35 miles I have to drive to get there is worth every minute for the quality of care I receive from the entire PVA team.” Nancy said.

Nancy is a firm believer that when someone does something good and right, people should hear about it. To prove it, she tells anyone who will listen about the amazing doctors at PVA and the high level of care and concern she receives from the entire PVA team each time she visits.

Nancy and Tom are back to delivering newspapers to patients in their local hospital and spreading happiness and positivity everywhere they go. They are now in their 16th year of volunteering in this way! “We’re still chugging along,” said Nancy, who is now 82 years young.

If you or someone you love is experiencing unexplained leg pain and is looking for answers, we invite you to schedule an appointment with one of our 20 board-certified vascular experts at PVA.
